The Coco de Mer (also known as the sea coconut or double nut), is the worlds largest seed derived from the Lodoicea Maldivica plant which grows in the Seychelles.

Until the mid-eighteenth century, it was believed that the seed was the fruit of a mythical undersea plant. As such (and due to their resemblance to the female anatomy) the seeds were highly prized, often polished and decorated with precious stones and metals.

The Coco de Mer is still sought after by collectors for their scarcity and shape. This example has been in a private collection for several decades.
