The Designer

Grete Juel Jalk (1920 – 2006) was a Danish modernist furniture designer. A pioneer, she was one of the only female furniture designers working in Denmark during the 1950s and 1960s. Initially inspired by Charles & Ray Eames and Alvar Alato, Jalk was known for her innovative work. She opened her own design studio in 1953. Many of her designs incorporated plywood, a new material at the time, and therefore were not mass-produced.

This mid century drinks trolley is identical in design to those of Grete Jalk, although as unsigned and unmarked we cannot attribute directly.

Orbit Castors were designed by David Carter for Joseph Gillott & Sons, winning the Design Centre Award in 1961.
