The Maker

The Rowley Gallery are picture framers and fine art dealers based in London.

Founded by husband and wife team Albert and Emma Rowley in 1898, the company has been known since that time known for its fine framing, gilding and carving.

During the early 20thcentury, the Rowley Gallery produced intricate marquetry panels often for furniture and as stand-alone artworks. Artists such as William Chase and Frank Brangwyn designed these works.

With the growing success of the business by the 1920s they had expanded into producing furniture and mirrors for interiors.

This Rowley Gallery chest of drawers appears to have been manufactured during the company’s time at 140 Kensington Church Street, their premises during the early 20thcentury.

Tragically 140 Kensington Church Street was destroyed by an incendiary bomb in 1940. The business continues to operate from 115 Kensington Church Street.
