The Designer

Grete Juel Jalk (1920 – 2006) was a Danish modernist furniture designer. A pioneer, she was one of the only female furniture designers working in Denmark during the 1950s and 1960s. Initially inspired by Charles & Ray Eames and Alvar Alato, Jalk was known for her innovative work. Jalk opened her own design studio in 1953. Many of her designs incorporated plywood, a new material at the time, and therefore were not mass-produced.

Orbit Castors were designed by David Carter for Joseph Gillott & Sons, winning the Design Centre Award in 1961.
