An original vintage London, Midland & Scottish Railways – LMS travel poster New Brighton & Wallasey – Served By The LMS. The artwork designed by Claude Henry Buckle R.I., R.S.M.A. (1905–1973). Produced circa 1940s.

The poster featuring figures in swim suits on New Brighton Beach looking towards Liverpool. Traveller information included Guide Book On Application To Town Clerk Wallasey, For Particulars of Cheap Tickets and Train Services Apply Any LMS Station.

This poster has been conservation linen backed and restored.

In Quad Royal size  dimensions approximately 39 ½ x 49 ¾ inches

The Artist

Claude Henry Buckle was a British artist who was known particularly for his railway poster designs, marine paintings and carriage print artwork. Initially working as an amateur Claude Buckle was a member of the Bristol Savages group. Having initially worked as an architect he began his professional career as a commercial artist aged 26.

Buckle became one of the most prolific British railway posters artists of the mid 20thcentury. Between the 1940s and 1960s, he produced over 85 designs for railway posters as well as many more for carriage prints.
