RAILWAYANA/ SOUTHERN RAILWAY POSTER DESIGN: Stanley Payne (1902 – 1989): An original poster concept design painting for Southern Railway travel poster entitled “Londres”, circa 1936. The poster created to advertise London as a travel destination to French citizens.

The design features various important London landmarks including Eros, the Houses of Parliament and St. Pauls Cathedral. The reverse bearing Baynard Press label with registration details for the artwork “The Baynard Press, Chryssell Road, S.W.9., Registered No. 10768” the label applied over an inscription of Payne’s name and address.  The Baynard Press were the original publishers of the finished poster design.

Dimensions 32 x 51cm.

A copy of the original poster is included in the National Transport Museum archive.

Condition report: Fair condition. Rounding to all corners, some splitting to centre right artwork, water staining to centre artwork, general surface dirt throughout.
