Marilyn Monroe: A rare original vintage U.S. one sheet movie poster for ‘Don’t Bother To Knock’, starring Marilyn Monroe, Richard Widmark and Anne Bancroft (in her first film role). First issue poster, released 1952.

20th Century Fox released ‘Don’t Bother To Knock’ in July 1952 as Marilyn Monroe first co-starring role. Marilyn was trying to prove her acting credentials in this psychological thriller (she had principally been cast in comedies up to this point) playing  psychotic baby-sitter Nell Forbes.

This poster is a rare surviving example from the original release. This American one-sheet features one of the best images of Marilyn Monroe, a must have for serious collectors.

The poster is lithographic printed, typical of the American film posters of this period. The poster was originally folded (common with those issued to cinemas for display) and has recently been acid free conservation linen-backed to preserve it.  To the reverse the poster does bear the original release stamp details however this is no longer visible due to the backing, it additionally has impressed details to bottom left corner. Overall the poster is in very good condition in accordance with age (see images for further details of condition – full condition report available).

Condition Report: Overall condition excellent/ very good in accordance with age and use. Poster originally folded (typical when sending to cinemas), colours good, some light foxing not visible after linen backing. Small tear to white border above 'R' or Widmark billing, further small tear to white border above Marilyn elbow to left edge and to bottom white border centre. Some very minor paper loss to fold joins and top left corner (professionally repaired) (see image).
